I think "Ex stars with normal jobs now" would make a good thread.

Bungo

Was he a bit of a Dandy and did he insist on A King of Hush while he was working?

Random useless fact - The former bass player of Herman's Hermits Karl, tiled the bathroom at my last house, 20 odd years ago.

Re: The Kinks...
Waterloo Sunset typifies the dynamic of the Kinks' music.

It's a sloppy ballad, really, though a great sloppy ballad. But by the time Dave has finished smearing his angry staccato guitar all over it, it's a rock song. There is fuck all tasteful about his playing there. Pure genius.

For me the Kinks sit at the top of the second division of 60s Brit bands.

Re: The Kinks...
For anyone like me who spent their teenage years in the 60's "Waterloo Sunset" was THE most iconic 60's pop song. Somehow the feel of the song matched that era perfectly.

Saw the Kinks several times. Ray Davis, when he wasn't being hit over the head with a guitar by his brother Dave, is and was a genius. Not the greatest voice but wrote beautifully crafted songs and Waterloo Sunset is his crowning glory.

Saw Sunny Afternoon up the west end year before last and it happened to be the changing of the cast opening night. Loads of press and celebs there, got to meet a few legends including Sir Ray, Liam Gallagher (who was as moody as he looks), Carl Barat, Gary Kemp and THE Pete Waterman.

Brilliant show. Didn't realise how prolific The Kinks were until seeing it

Re: The Kinks...
Always found the Kinks a bit too poopy… decent enough band … All the Day and Tired of waiting are great choons…. But I am more a Who, Small Faces, Yardbirds, Spencer Davis Grp, Stones man myself…

I always think that the Polka Tulk Blues Band is a very underrated band from the 60s.

I assumed we're talking about just British Bands of that era. So you gotta add The Yardbirds
